With Newcastle United on a rapid rise up to the Champions League, there has been little need to worry about star players potentially leaving.

While that is only likely to continue in the short-term, there has been a lot of talk about Bruno Guimaraes of late.

Perhaps the standout player in a brilliant Newcastle team recently admitted the “doubt” in regards to him signing a new contract was ongoing.

Real Madrid are believed to hold a long-term interest in the midfielder, albeit there is little need to panic immediately given his current contract runs until 2026.

In fact, Eddie Howe is confident there will be no such worries long-term either.

Indeed, the Newcastle manager believes the club are protected from any interest that may emerge in the Brazil international.

In fact, Howe claimed that Guimaraes views the upcoming season as a “huge opportunity” for both him and the club.

In quotes sourced via the Daily Mail, Howe said: “I don’t think Bruno wants to leave. I feel we are protected enough.

“The most important person in this is Bruno. He sees this season as a huge opportunity for him to play on the best stage that he can and to try and help Newcastle grow.

“That is the most important thing, not necessarily if a club comes in, it is where the player feels his home is and I think he feels that his home is Newcastle.”

It’s up to Newcastle to provide Guimaraes with the right of environment

While a club of Real Madrid’s stature is always going to be hard to ignore, Guimaraes has been open in his desire to stay.

Reportedly waiting on the offer of a new contract, it’s up to Newcastle to prove they can keep growing.

If they can build a squad capable of consistent qualification for the Champions League and one able to push on to challenge for trophies, there will be even fewer reasons to leave.

Guimaraes has certainly fulfilled his end of the bargain. Open to staying, it’s up to the club to do the same with theirs.
