Fabian Schar has entered the final year of his current contract at Newcastle United.
As things stand, the 32-year-old defender is set to become a free agent at the end of the current season.
Fabian Schar has been one of Newcastle’s most important players this season but he currently faces an uncertain future as his contract ticks down.
Anthony Gordon has already agreed a long-term contract to end speculation over his future and Newcastle have now turned their attention to other negotiations.
It has been reported that Newcastle are in talks with Schar over a new contract, and he has now opened up on how he feels about staying on Tyneside.

Fabian Schar comments on Newcastle contract situation
Fabian Schar has spoken about his contract situation and he has made it clear that he wants to stay put at St James’ Park.
Speaking to 4-4-2, Schar said he would “love to stay”.
“I feel really comfortable at Newcastle, I’ve been playing for years and I have a coach who relies on me. Everything is right for me. I would love to stay. The club and the coach know what they have in me,” Schar said.
“Basically, things have always gone relatively quickly in recent years. The club wanted to keep me, I wanted to stay. That’s why it was never a big deal.”
Fabian Schar could return to Switzerland if he leaves Newcastle
It seems that everything is pointing towards Schar staying put and extending his stay at Newcastle, but he does have a plan in mind if he leaves in the summer.
In the same interview, it was pointed out that Schar has previously spoken about re-joining Swiss side FC Basel towards the end of his career.

Now at 32 years old, Schar has revisited the idea of moving back to Switzerland.
“I always said that at the beginning when I went abroad, that I would like to do that,” Schar said.
“At the moment, I feel extremely comfortable and am not thinking about coming back. But if I were to play football in Switzerland again, I can only imagine it at FCB.”
