Newcastle United have had to deal without key players all season.
Indeed, Eddie Howe has been missing the likes of Sandro Tonali, Sven Botman, Joe Willock, Joelinton, Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson for much of the campaign.
Though blaming Newcastle’s relative struggles this season on the injury crisis is up for debate, it has been so stark at times that other managers have noted upon it.
One injury that was said to have particularly disappointed Howe was the dislocated shoulder Nick Pope suffered back in December.
Howe was said to have been “crestfallen” by the blow, with even coach Graeme Jones thought to be have been “downbeat”.
Though Pope has previously said to have been close to returning to action, Howe has now provided an update.
Nick Pope injury news: Eddie Howe latest
Speaking to the Shields Gazette, Howe confirmed the £10m star would not be rushed back and that fans can expect to see Pope again next month.
“It’s more likely to be next month, I don’t think we’ll see him this month,” he said. “He’s working his way back well from his injury but we have to be careful with him.
“It’s important for a goalkeeper to be 100% fit, especially with shoulder issues. So yeah, I think next month.”

Nick Pope injury: Martin Dubravka stepping up
Newcastle have at least seen an improvement from Martin Dubravka of late.
There were initially doubts about the veteran following Pope’s injury but Dubravka was crucial in getting Newcastle over the line in the FA Cup by saving two penalties in a shootout against Blackburn.
Having also made some big saves on an otherwise awful night at Arsenal before putting in another impressive display against Wolves, things are at least improving.
While it would be a major shock not to see Pope quickly retake his starting spot upon his return from injury, the situation is not quite as pressing for now.
With Dubravka pulling his weight, Newcastle can afford to be a touch more relaxed about bringing Pope back into the fold when he’s good and ready, rather than taking risks on such a key player.
Dubravka’s form has bought some crucial time.
