It’s going to be a big summer at Newcastle United.

Indeed, after a period in which Newcastle United have struggled to strengthen their first-team to any meaningful degree, all of that could soon be about to change.

Luckily, Newcastle insiders believe they are in a position to spend big, while a return to the Champions League could also surely boost the funds available to Eddie Howe

While much of the focus will be on the players coming into St James’ Park, this summer could be the end of the road for others in the Newcastle United squad

One player the Newcastle United manager wants to keep, however, is Kieran Trippier

Eddie Howe confirms Kieran Trippier transfer stance

Trippier has been excellent of late and provided two assists as Newcastle beat Ipswich 3-0 on Saturday.

After a rough period last season, the veteran full-back is enjoying a remarkable return to form and was crucial to Newcastle winning the Carabao Cup last month.

It’s been claimed that Newcastle expect Trippier to leave this summer after constantly being linked with a move away for months.

However, Howe outlined his intention to keep the 34-year-old next season.

Speaking about Trippier after the Ipswich game, Howe said: “He is a difference-maker for us. He has obvious qualities on the pitch, but he is a leader and his experience helps us in so many ways.”

Before adding: “It goes without saying we want to keep our best players and add to the squad if possible. That’s a big thing.”

Kieran Trippier’s massive role behind the scenes at Newcastle United

Not only excellent on the pitch again, Trippier’s role behind the scenes at the club cannot be understated.

The first signing of the PIF era, he’s been a key part of the journey since.

Trippier is seen as one of the dressing room leaders at Newcastle, so selling him just because he may not start ahead of Tino Livramento when Lewis Hall returns to fitness is not a simple decision.

It’s hard to overstate just how important a figure the defender is in Newcastle’s modern history.

Keeping him at the club for another season at least and allowing him the chance to decide his next move when his contract expires next summer feels the right thing to do.
