Callum Wilson’s future as a Newcastle United player is unclear.
Wilson has been an excellent player for Newcastle United since joining way back in 2020, albeit with one obvious caveat applied.
The striker has sadly suffered with injury throughout his time at St James’ Park, missing 114 games with various problems.
Still, Wilson’s record for Newcastle stands at 49 goals in 125 appearances across all competitions.
Eddie Howe is a huge fan of the player, too. In fact, Howe has described Wilson as a “monster” because of his mentality.
Wilson is out of contract at Newcastle this summer but that does not necessarily mean he’s certain to leave.

Callum Wilson sent message by Newcastle hierarchy
According to The Daily Telegraph, the veteran has been told to prove he’s worthy of a new contract during what remains of this season.
The Newcastle United manager is said to value the striker’s presence in the dressing room and both he and sporting director Paul Mitchell are understood to know they need a deep squad next season.
While reaching the Champions League again is in their sights, Newcastle have qualified for the Conference League at least.
As a result, and considering Will Osula is potentially leaving Newcastle on loan, Wilson could yet be kept on.
Callum Wilson’s stats for Newcastle United
Clearly, the sheer numbers of games Wilson has missed since 2020 is hugely frustrating. A decision to keep him would likely split opinion and should not be considered at all unless the club’s medical staff are confident he can keep fit.
Still, as a third-choice option behind Alexander Isak and perhaps a new signing, Wilson could be worth keeping around. In that event, he would not have to play all too often.
Hugely experienced, his contribution to the cause since joining from Bournemouth is not to be overlooked.
| Games | Goals | Assists | Games missed through injury | Game-winning goals |
| 125 | 49 | 11 | 114 | 10 |
As per Transfermarkt data, ten of Wilson’s 49 goals for Newcastle have directly resulted in victories.
Excellent both in the relegation battles of the past as well as in the Champions League qualification season of 2022-23, whatever happens with Wilson this summer should be treated with respect.
