Newcastle United have momentum heading into the final few games of the season.
Indeed, after a difficult summer and a reasonably slow start to the season, Newcastle United are dreaming again.
During what has already been an historic campaign – one that included a sensational Carabao Cup win after 70 years of hurt – Eddie Howe’s side are also on course for Champions League qualification.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 2 | 32 | 17 | 12 | 3 | 57 | 27 | 30 | 63 | |
| 3 | 32 | 17 | 6 | 9 | 51 | 38 | 13 | 57 | |
| 4 | 31 | 17 | 5 | 9 | 56 | 40 | 16 | 56 | |
| 5 | 32 | 16 | 7 | 9 | 62 | 42 | 20 | 55 |
While it could yet end in even more glory, this has not been an easy campaign. PSR problems meant Newcastle sold players they didn’t want to, and they struggled to strengthen their squad to any significant degree.
There were briefly doubts about the manager’s future after Howe was linked with the England job, while sporting director Paul Mitchell did not enjoy the easiest of starts at St James’ Park.
As such, to be so close to adding Champions League qualification to a first trophy in a lifetime is a remarkable achievement from Howe and the Newcastle coaching staff.
The players also have to take a huge amount of credit. It has largely been the same group for close to three seasons now, so to keep going back to the well takes some character.
Newcastle have recruited well but insiders believe the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Dan Burn and Kieran Trippier are of particular importance.

What Newcastle United sources are now saying about the dressing room
Howe missed Newcastle’s win over Manchester United after being admitted to hospital with pneumonia, meaning Jason Tindall and the players had to step-up in his absence.
Naturally, it remains unclear as to when the Newcastle United manager will return. Health is of course the most important thing.
With that in mind, it’s up to those within the dressing room to ensure they keep the train on the right track.
According to iNews, there are leaders to be found everywhere you look in the dressing room. Still, Guimaraes, Burn and Trippier are mentioned above almost everyone else.
It should also be noted that the likes of Sandro Tonali, Fabian Schar and Tino Livramento quietly help standards through their performances.
The game changer that brought Bruno Guimaraes to Newcastle United
Arguably none of this would be possible without Trippier joining the club from Atletico Madrid in January 2022.
The first signing of the PIF era, the former England star helped send the project into overdrive.
Burn’s importance cannot be understated of course but without Trippier, Newcastle wouldn’t have got Guimaraes.
Indeed, Guimaraes revealed Trippier convinced him to join Newcastle, such is his standing in the game.
Without him, Newcastle could be in a very diffrerent place right now.
