Eddie Howe no longer needs to worry about losing Newcastle United’s most unique player this summer.
There could be a lot of change at St James’ Park this summer, and there are fears that major names could leave the club. Bruno Guimaraes is being linked with a move away, and his £100million release clause certainly makes that a possibility.
There are also fears surrounding Alexander Isak, who continues to prove that he is one of the Premier League’s best strikers – and certainly someone who should be competing in the Champions League, just like Bruno.
And there have also been concerns regarding Joelinton‘s future, amid his contract situation. But it was reported earlier this week that a new deal was on the horizon, and that is now official.
Joelinton signs new contract to stay at Newcastle United
Newcastle United have confirmed that Joelinton has signed a new long-term deal at St James’ Park.
He has committed his future to the Magpies, after it was previously suggested that he may have played his last game in a black and white shirt.
But Toon fans no longer need to worry about losing Joelinton. The club does not need to cash in on him any more, which would have been a necessity had he not signed a new contract.
But the Brazil international has put pen to paper on a new deal, and the club announced it in a very amusing way. They uploaded a video to social media of Joelinton taking on Nick Pope in a game of Connect Four, with Joelinton having to sign a new contract if Pope won. The goalkeeper came out on top, and big Joe is here to stay!
Eddie Howe shares his reaction to Joelinton contract news
Of course, Newcastle United fans are delighted to discover that Joelinton has signed a new contract.
And Eddie Howe is also delighted, having previously admitted that he was desperate for the 27-year-old to extend his stay at St James’ Park.
Joelinton has done exactly that, and Howe has told the club’s official website exactly how happy he is.
“This has been a big priority for us off the pitch and I’m absolutely delighted Joelinton has committed his future to the club,” he said.
“Joey is an exceptional player and person, and the love he has for the club is reciprocated by all of us here. He brings unique qualities to the group and undoubtedly makes us stronger.
“I’d like to thank everyone involved behind the scenes for bringing this to a swift and positive conclusion. We are all excited to see Joelinton in a Newcastle shirt for many years to come.”

Amanda Staveley was the driving force behind the scenes
Howe is buzzing to know that Joelinton is staying, and has thanked those involved in the deal for making it become a reality. There was a time when it looked like an agreement was not going to be forthcoming and the club would need to sell Joelinton this summer.
But that is no longer the case, and it appears that negotiations took a turn for the better when Amanda Staveley got involved.
The Toon co-owner deserves a lot of credit for her role, having also helped broker the deal that Bruno Guimaraes signed last year. On top of that, she was also a driving force in signing Anthony Gordon in January 2023.
Staveley has done a lot of great work behind the scenes at Newcastle United, and that is continuing with Joelinton’s new contract.
