There was only one negative from Newcastle United’s 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon.

Newcastle made it three wins in a row this weekend after beating third-placed Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

The away form has been disappointing this season, but Eddie Howe inspired his side to a second-half comeback against Forest with Alexander Isak, Joelinton and Harvey Barnes all on the scoresheet.

It was an important result for Newcastle, lifting the Magpies up to eighth in the Premier League table ahead of the November international break.

Newcastle enter the break in great form and with a mostly healthy squad, although there was one injury suffered against Forest.

Anthony Gordon injury blow

Anthony Gordon had a rare quiet game against Forest after starting on the right.

He was moved to his preferred left side in the second half and improved, but his game was cut short in the 80th minute when he was replaced by Barnes.

Gordon was pictured going straight down the tunnel and it has now been confirmed by Howe that he is struggling with a hip injury.

As quoted by the Northern Echo, Howe said after full-time: “It looks like a similar problem to the one he had a few weeks ago with his hip.

“We hope it’s not serious, but I don’t know yet because I’ve not spoken to him.”

Anthony Gordon may have to withdraw from England duty

Newcastle fans had mixed emotions towards the England squad named by Lee Carsley last week.

Lewis Hall got his first senior call-up alongside Gordon, but Tino Livramento and Nick Pope were both left out.

However, after his injury against Forest, it has been suggested that Gordon may withdraw from international duty.

Howe was asked after the match whether he thinks Gordon will withdraw and he replied: “Because he had to come off, I would say yes.”

It is unfortunate for Gordon to miss out on an England squad just as he was breaking into the starting lineup, but a two-week break for recovery should mean he is sharp and fit when the Premier League resumes.
