Bruno Guimaraes has gone from strength to strength since joining Newcastle United in 2022.
The Brazilian has been a cut above the rest this season, showing he can be an influential figure on and off the pitch.
Eddie Howe rewarded Bruno Guimaraes for his hard work in the last two years by handing him the captain’s armband, taking over from Kieran Trippier whose game time has been reduced this campaign.
Guimaraes always seems to be the first player on social media after a game, taking responsibility for a defeat or thanking the fans for a win. He also goes out of his way to praise his teammates after putting in a good performance.

Sometimes, you don’t realise just how well a player is doing until you see their statistics. Many Newcastle fans know how good Guimaraes is but they didn’t realise he was as good as recent statistics have revealed.
A recent post from Sqwaka has revealed that Guimaraes leads Europe’s top five leagues for the ground duels won (170), fouls won, (89) and through-balls completed (11) this season.
In reaction to the news, Guimaraes posted on his personal Instagram story with a zipped mouth and prayer hands emoji, as if to silence those who have berated him in the last few weeks.
There were suggestions that Guimaraes should’ve been rested for the Brighton loss, but the Brazilian came on in the second half. His presence was not enough to stop the Seagulls who won the game in extra time.
Post-match, Guimaraes posted a passionate 122-word message to social media, apologising to the fans and asking for their support ahead of the Carabao Cup final later this month.
Sandro Tonali also tops Premier League statistic
Sandro Tonali has formed a strong partnership with Guimaraes this season. The Italian plays in a deeper midfield role which allows the Brazilian to roam around the pitch, knowing he has an option behind him if need be.
Guimaraes was playing in that deeper midfield role during Tonali’s absence last season which limited his involvement in Newcastle’s attacks. Shearer has praised Howe for Tonali’s tactical switch. When he returned to Newcastle’s first-team squad it looked as if he never left, kicking off an attack which led to a goal in his first game back against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup.
A recent statistic from WhoScored revealed that Tonali has won possession in the midfield third more times (32) than any other player in the Premier League in 2025.
The Italian is like a Duracell bunny, constantly working hard to win the ball back and push Newcastle further up the pitch.
