Newcastle United have inadvertently been included in a bizarre crossover with a popular wrestling star.
The Magpies have been looking to increase their reputation across the world, and they may have been given a hand in the most unlikely of circumstances.
Newcastle United recently announced plans to tour around Singapore and South Korea for pre-season, with Eddie Howe’s side set to play games in the Singapore National Stadium to boost their commercial profile and land a lucrative bonus.
Additionally, Newcastle will play Celtic for the Adidas Trophy in what should be a good money-spinner for the Magpies.
In March, Newcastle announced a £320m turnover in their latest financial accounts. The figures were higher than what CEO Darren Eales initially expected them to be, proving the club are going in the right direction.
As Eales and Chief Commercial Officer Peter Silverstone look for new ways to promote the club, a bizarre crossover with the professional wrestling world has shown the club off to millions.

Wrestling star Gabe Kidd wears Newcastle United hoodie on AEW Collision
Professional wrestling is an untapped market for Newcastle, with the club opting to stay away from other sports and showcasing the club in other ways.
A Japanese Newcastle fan loves the club because of Alan Pardew’s headbutt, calling the game ‘crazy’.
Now, Newcastle have been exposed to millions of wrestling fans around the world after popular star Gabe Kidd made a shock appearance on AEW Collision.
While the appearance was a surprise, what was more surprising was that Kidd wore a Newcastle hoodie to the ring.
Kidd is from Nottingham and is believed to be a Nottingham Forest fan. While not officially confirmed why he wore the hoodie, it may be to do with him filling in for fellow wrestling star PAC. Previously known as Neville in the WWE, PAC is a Newcastle fan, so there is a good chance it is a subtle nod to him.
It is not the first time Newcastle have been in the limelight during a wrestling show. A Newcastle fan made a fantastic sign for Joelinton, which was seen on television screens during a show in Glasgow in March.
Newcastle United fans once booed Sunderland star during WWE show
Newcastle’s rivalry with Sunderland is recognised as one of the most fierce in English football. The Magpies currently hold the bragging rights over their arch rivals after the 3-0 win at the Stadium of Light in January 2024.
Chris Rigg controversially admitted that Sunderland is his club, despite the young midfielder being brought up in a family of Newcastle fans.
The rivalry between the two clubs has also spread into wrestling in the past, where a former Sunderland player was given a very cold reception at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena.
During a house show in 2015, Jermain Defoe was introduced to a chorus of boos from the passionate Newcastle supporters in the arena. His appearance came just a few days after he scored the winner against Newcastle at the Stadium of Light.
Newcastle could play Sunderland in the Premier League next season if they win the play-off final. It will be the first time the two clubs have played in the top flight since 2016.
