Anthony Gordon says there is only one striker who’s as good as Newcastle United teammate Alexander Isak

Anthony Gordon has made a huge claim about Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.

The Swede has been sensational this season, scoring 21 goals in all competitions for a Newcastle side who have lacked different goalscorers.

Newcastle United have the joint-lowest number of goalscorers in the Premier League this season with nine – equal with Leicester, Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town.

Alexander Isak’s confidence in front of goal means that Newcastle are still fifth in the league, level on points with Manchester City. The 25-year-old scored a brace in Newcastle’s win against Nottingham Forest on Sunday to make it 19 league goals for the campaign. He has another chance of adding to his tally as the Magpies take on Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday night.

Isak has garnered praise from players and pundits alike for just how well he has played this season, his Newcastle teammates are not excluded from that. Lewis Miley can’t believe he plays with Isak, saying it is a ‘privilege’.

Newcastle’s top scorer has received even more praise from teammate Anthony Gordon who holds him in the highest regard.

Anthony Gordon on Alexander Isak’s world status

Toon winger Gordon has had a great season in his own right, scoring nine goals and bagging six assists in all competitions. The 24-year-old failed to get on the scoresheet against Forest but played his part ensuring that Eddie Howe’s side secured an important three points in a thrilling encounter.

Isak is regarded as one of the best strikers in the world thanks to his sensational form in the last two seasons. Newcastle legend Alan Shearer said Isak was ‘world-class‘ in January when he was going through his brilliant goalscoring streak.

Now, Gordon has agreed with those claims, even going as far as to claim he is the best striker in the world.

In a video on Theo Baker’s YouTube channel, Lewis Bowden states that Isak is the best striker in the world. Gordon says “I agree,” in response. The winger then compares Isak to one of his England teammates, saying, “I think (Harry) Kane’s top as well.”

Harry Kane has been fantastic for Bayern Munich this campaign, the German giants are currently top of the Bundesliga under Vincent Kompany’s management. The 31-year-old has scored 21 goals in 21 games this season and will soon reunite with former Chelsea and Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel when he picks his first Three Lions squad in March.

Newcastle have to keep Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak

With the pair still in the early stages of their careers, Paul Mitchell must do whatever he can to ensure both players stay at the club past this season. Both players have been embroiled in their own transfer sagas this season but have not let that affect their performances on the pitch.

It was revealed that Gordon could’ve joined Liverpool in the summer while Newcastle were still scrambling to overturn their huge PSR deficit. The Magpies sold Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh instead. Gordon signed a new contract with Newcastle which looks to have deterred any interested parties for now.

Arsenal want Isak but the Gunners will need to break the British transfer record to take him from Newcastle’s clutches. Isak will cost well over £100m in the summer but there is a chance he will sign a new deal that will make him Newcastle’s highest earner.

A lot of attention has been on possible incomings in the summer, but Mitchell must also focus in-house to tie players down.
