Lewis Miley can’t believe he gets to play alongside ‘ridiculous’ Newcastle United player

Newcastle United secured the three points against Nottingham Forest the hard way after late drama.

The Magpies snapped a two-game losing streak on Sunday thanks to an Alexander Isak brace coupled with goals from 18-year-old Lewis Miley and an out-of-sorts Jacob Murphy to move up to fifth in the Premier League table.

Miley was praised by Pat Nevin after he made the most of his first league start in over a year by scoring the equaliser to kickstart the Magpies’ sensational spell in front of goal. With Joelinton out injured until the Carabao Cup final, there is a big chance the youngster could feature in Eddie Howe’s starting XI again in the next few weeks.

Newcastle also welcomed three former Toon stars back to St James’ Park – Elliot Anderson, Chris Wood and Matz Sels all started for Nottingham Forest in the defeat.

Anderson was applauded by Newcastle fans when he was substituted off, a sign that there are no hard feelings between the player and the Toon Army.

As Miley celebrates his first Premier League goal in over a year, he took the time to commend another Newcastle player he simply can’t believe he gets to play alongside.

Lewis Miley praises Alexander Isak after Newcastle win

Even though he wasn’t at his best, Isak still managed to score two goals in Newcastle’s 4-3 win and become the highest-scoring Swede in Premier League history, scoring his 50th league goal in just 76 games.

His sensational run makes him the seventh fastest player to reach 50 goals in the league’s history and will look to add to his tally towards the end of the season.

In his post-match interview with Premier League Productions, Miley went out of his way to give Isak his flowers for the two goals.

On the game, Miley said: “I’d describe it as a hectic game. We played really well in the first half and put ourselves under pressure in the second. I’m really glad we’ve got the win. We’re pushing for Europe now.”

“As soon as I saw the keeper stay I thought “oh no, he going to save it,” Miley added.

“It’s ridiculous really. It’s a privilege to play with a player like that. It’s great to get tips off him. We were under pressure a bit and it was quite scrappy in the second half.

“But at least we got the win. We all want to be in the Champions League. That’s where we want to get to as a team.

“It’s a really big win and this is a step forward. We need to go on now and keep looking forward.”

Newcastle must do everything to keep Alexander Isak

With Isak’s form comes a slew of transfer interest. Newcastle are desperate to keep Isak for another year at least but have got to deter the likes of Arsenal and Barcelona from signing him in the summer.

Newcastle want to give Isak a new deal which would not only see him extend his time at the club but also become Newcastle’s top earner in the process. The win puts the Magpies closer to a Champions League spot – a competition that Isak is eager to play in next season.

If the league table stays as it is, Newcastle will qualify for the Champions League as it looks like England will be handed a fifth spot through the UEFA Coefficient rankings.

With Isak still scoring a brace when he didn’t look fully at the races, it’s a sign of a top-class player. Newcastle must now do everything in their power to keep him at the club and build a team around him.
