Such is the financial tightrope Newcastle United were walking, it seems Anthony Gordon could have left the club.
Despite a stunning season for Newcastle after a rapid-fire improvement following his difficult first few months at St James’ Park, Gordon was the subject of transfer talks with Liverpool.
Clearly, the club did not want to lose the 23-year-old and the discussions were held out of desperation more than anything else.
Now they are believed to be on the right side of the Profit and Sustainability balancing act, there may be hoping of keeping Gordon.
Still, reports have suggested the winger has had his turned and Luke Edwards of the Daily Telegraph has now shared more insight.

Luke Edwards shares how Anthony Gordon is feeling after Liverpool held talks with Newcastle
Gordon is believed to be a Reds fan and has previously talked about taking inspiration from current Anfield star, Mohamed Salah.
Responding to fans on X (formerly Twitter), Edwards revealed that while Gordon was not actually offered to Liverpool, his “head is in a mess” as he thought he had the chance to join his boyhood club.
No bid was ever made and it reportedly became obvious that Liverpool would never meet Newcastle’s valuation but it seems Gordon may have been open to the move.
Newcastle have to convince Anthony Gordon they are the right club for him
It would be understandable to be open to moving to the club you supported as a child, based in the city in which you were born.
That doesn’t necessarily mean he actively wants to leave Newcastle, just that Liverpool would appeal.
Now, it’s about convincing Gordon that Newcastle is the right place for him.
He’s spoken so positively about working with Eddie Howe, so hopefully that relationship will be enough to convince him that Newcastle is the best club for his career.
