Three years on from his Newcastle United exit, Andy Carroll is set to start a new chapter of his career at a fourth-tier club.

Andy Carroll came through the youth ranks and stars in Newcastle United’s best academy players of all time.

Born in Gateshead, he spent his childhood playing in black and white before bursting into the senior team in 2006.

Carroll is a name remembered fondly by Newcastle supporters for his two stints at the club, where he scored 34 goals in 134 games.

The towering striker spent an initial five years at St James’ Park before completing a £35m move to Liverpool in 2011 which made him the most expensive British player of all time – at the time.

He made a return to the club in 2019 but only added one goal to his Newcastle tally over two seasons under Steve Bruce before his exit in 2021.

Andy Carroll set to join eighth club of his career

Carroll was never able to replicate the form from his first spell at Newcastle. He struggled at Liverpool and injury problems have plagued him ever since.

Now 35 years old, Carroll is refusing to hang his boots up and he’s set to make a rather unexpected move to join an eighth different club across his playing career.

After recent stints at Reading and West Brom, he made a switch to French side Amiens in 2023.

According to French outlet L’Equipe, Carroll is set to stay in France but drop down to the fourth tier of their league pyramid to join Bordeaux.

The French outfit were recently relegated to the fourth tier after declaring bankruptcy. Now trying to climb their way back up the leagues, they will hope that Carroll can help them in that journey.

Andy Carroll will play alongside Amadou Diallo

With Bordeaux looking to get a team together who can help them return to the top flight, the French outfit also signed Amadou Diallo this summer.

Diallo was released by Newcastle United in the summer after making only one senior appearance for the club.

Diallo joined Newcastle in 2021 after impressing at West Ham’s academy but never quite cemented his spot in the first team.

Carroll and Diallo are set to become teammates at Bordeaux for the 2024-25 campaign.
