Transfer deadline day is one of the most exciting days on the football calendar and quite often there’s a surprise thrown up among the business and this year is no exception with former Newcastle United star Andy Carroll finding a new club.
The Newcastle academy graduate – who looked set for a glittering career at Newcastle before being unceremoniously sold to Liverpool for a British transfer fee of £35million – has now signed a new deal with French Ligue 2 side Amiens.
The nine-times capped England man’s career never reached the highs it once threatened to and it’s always been one of those big questions of “What if?”. If Carroll hadn’t been sold, could he have hit the highs his potential promised if he’d stayed at his boyhood club?
Carroll had the potential to be a megastar at Newcastle
We’ll never know now. Now 34, Carroll had a moderately successful time of it at West Ham but since then moved on to a terrible second spell at Newcastle under Steve Bruce before moving on to Reading then to West Brom, once again under Bruce, and then back to Reading.
Reading were relegated to League Two last season and as such needed to get Andy Carroll off the books for financial reasons.

Then today it was announced that Carroll has moved to France Ligue 2 side Amiens. If that name sounds familiar it’s where Newcastle acquired Swedish right-back Emil Krafth.
Carroll has now moved to the French second tier
Amiens have got off to a good start this season winning three of four games in Ligue 2 and find themselves in second spot in the League.

Amiens will be hoping that Carroll’s firepower can help them make the jump into Ligue 1.
Quite why Amiens got Rylan Clark to do their promotional shots instead of just asking Andy Carroll himself is anyone’s guess.
