Alexander Isak’s recent for at Newcastle United has been unbelievable.
Newcastle have their best striker since Alan Shearer at their disposal and he’s firing goals in left, right and centre.
Isak added to his tally on Wednesday night to make it a total of 17 goals across the Premier League and Carabao Cup so far this season. He doesn’t look like stopping either.
The Swede picked up his sixth straight Player of the Match award in Newcastle’s win against Wolves at St James’ Park. Isak has now scored in his last eight Premier League games, a new club record.
Although there has been transfer interest in Isak from Arsenal, it’s highly unlikely they’ll be able to pay the £150million fee Newcastle want for him. The big price tag is an indicator of how much Toon boss Eddie Howe values the 25-year-old.
The forward has been praised for his recent performances. Shearer referred to Isak as “class” following Wednesday’s game. Now, Ally McCoist has had his say on where Isak stands in regards to the best in the Premier League.

Ally McCoist makes “best” Isak statement
Isak’s 15 Premier League goals make him the third top scorer this season. Only Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah have more.
Talking to TNT Sport on Wednesday night, McCoist made a clear statement on whether Isak was the best striker in the league.
He said: “Alexander Isak is the best centre-forward in the Premier League right now by a country mile.”
“I just like the style of his play. I think he gets in behind. I think he’s all-around, I think he holds the ball up well. He gets all sorts of finishes. I think he can come short; he spins in behind. He’s just a very, very intelligent player.”
McCoist also praised Isak for his ability to get involved in a game and create chances for himself and compared him to Haaland.
“You look at somebody like Haaland, if he doesn’t get service, sometimes he’s anonymous,” he said.
“Whereas Isak will always give you something. Haaland can finish as well as anybody, if not the best on the planet, but in an all-round game, Isak is unstoppable. And the variation in the goals he’s scored, he scores tap-ins, he’ll run through.
“He’s one of those centre forwards at this moment in time, if you see him go one-on-one with the goalkeeper, you fancy him.”
Newcastle need to keep Isak
There’s no doubt that Isak has qualities unlike what many Newcastle fans have seen before. Howe and sporting director Paul Mitchell must do as much as they can to keep Isak at the club long-term.
Isak’s contract isn’t up until 2028, but Newcastle must get him to sign a new contract soon to tie him down for longer and push his valuation up even more.
Recent rumblings behind the scenes suggest that Newcastle are set to offer Isak a new contract with many bonuses. Isak would adopt the number nine shirt from Callum Wilson who is out of contract in the summer.
Isak wants to become Newcastle’s highest earner which would see him earn more than Bruno Guimaraes‘ £160,000 per week.
The Swede wants to play Champions League football next season. He has the belief that Newcastle can do enough to qualify for Europe’s top competition. The possibility of winning silverware this season should also be a sweetener to keep him at the club.
