Alan Shearer drops three-word reaction to Alexander Isak’s display as Newcastle United striker breaks his record

Alexander Isak is in unstoppable form for Newcastle United right now.

Indeed, Isak scored twice as Newcastle beat Wolves on Wednesday night as Eddie Howe’s side moved up to fourth in the Premier League table.

It’s incredible to think the striker started the season reasonably poorly. Isak, on current form, surely has to be considered the best forward in the world.

Last week, the Newcastle United manager admitted Isak’s price tag before joining the club in the summer of 2022 concerned him somewhat.

While perhaps understandable back then, the £63million Newcastle paid for Isak now looks like an utter bargain.

In fact, the striker is now making history for the club.

Isak’s first goal against Wolves saw him become the first Newcastle player to ever score in eight successive Premier League games, surpassing even the great Alan Shearer.

The Newcastle United legend managed to bag in seven in a row back in 1996 but never quite got to eight. Only Jamie Vardy (twice), Daniel Sturridge and Ruud van Nistelrooy (twice) have gone where Isak is currently going.

Taking to social media platform X, Shearer was full of praise.

Watching the superstar Swede in action, Shearer wrote: “He’s class. Isakkkkk.”

Will Alexander Isak sign a new contract at Newcastle?

That would certainly appear to be the case.

It should of course be noted that Isak is under contract until the summer of 2028. Still, there were rumblings about his long-term future earlier this season during a pretty slow start for Newcastle.

However, recent reports from The Chronicle in fact suggest those behind the scenes at the club expect Isak to commit to a new deal.

He could even be handed Shearer’s iconic No.9 shirt should Callum Wilson leave this summer.

Few would doubt Isak is worth such an honour!
