Alexander Isak’s agents could make shock demand as Newcastle United contract talks planned

Newcastle United are desperate to keep a hold of Alexander Isak as exit rumours loom.

The Swede has been sensational for Newcastle United this season, scoring 17 Premier League goals which has only been bettered by Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah throughout the campaign.

Alexander Isak has the chance to add to his impressive goal tally as Newcastle visit Manchester City on Saturday in what is a huge game in the Champions League race.

Former Newcastle man Yankuba Minteh did the Magpies a favour by scoring a brace against Chelsea on Friday night – meaning a win against Man City would see Newcastle move up to fourth.

Amid interest from Arsenal, Newcastle want Isak to sign a new deal which will tie him down to the club long-term. The 25-year-old has his fair share of demands before a deal can happen, however.

Reports suggest Isak wants a big wage increase at Newcastle that would see him overtake Bruno Guimaraes as the club’s highest earner.

As well as the pay increase, Isak could take Newcastle’s number nine shirt if Toon boss Eddie Howe and Paul Mitchell decide against extending Callum Wilson’s contract. The 32-year-old’s deal runs out in the summer and as it stands there is no confirmation of whether he will stay on for another year.

With contract talks set to commence at the end of the season, Isak’s agents could make a staggering demand that will shock Newcastle fans.

Alexander Isak’s agents want release clause in Newcastle contract

Arsenal wanted to sign Isak in the January transfer window but Newcastle priced them out of any deal by slapping a £150m price tag on the Swede. Mikel Arteta’s side would have to smash the British transfer record to release him from the Magpies’ clutches.

However, according to inews, talks may not be straightforward between the player and the club – Isak’s agents may even push for a release clause in his new contract which would be similar to the one Guimaraes had when he signed a new deal in 2023.

Guimaraes’ £100m Newcastle release clause attracted the likes of Manchester City but there were no suitable offers for the Brazilian. His release clause expired in the summer and Guimaraes was named Newcastle captain for the season.

Isak would join the likes of Anthony Gordon and Joelinton who have signed new deals with the club in the last 12 months. Newcastle want to extend Fabian Schar’s deal as the Swiss international is out of contract at the end of the season.

Newcastle set for PSR boost if Alexander Isak signs new deal

Newcastle have been hamstrung by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules which have forced them to sell players without signing replacements.

Their struggles were evident in the January transfer window when Miguel Almiron and Lloyd Kelly, two useful squad players, left the club in deals motivated by PSR.

According to the same inews report, Isak signing a new deal would give Newcastle increased headroom to spend as the remaining transfer fee the club needs to pay Real Sociedad would be stretched across a longer deal.

Mitchell has already begun work on the summer transfer window. Antonio Cordero is set to join Newcastle after positive talks with Mitchell – the Magpies will beat Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona to his signature if they can get the deal done.

18-year-old Cordero will follow the likes of Kyle Fitzgerald and Baran Yildiz to Tyneside. The pair signed deals in January and have linked up with Newcastle’s under-21s.
