After a quick start from the hosts, Anthony Gordon equalised just two minutes later after Newcastle escaped a controversial Joelinton handball decision.
Alexander Isak then netted his 14th goal of the season to put Newcastle in front. The superb Swede has now scored nine goals in his last seven matches.
Isak matched Alan Shearer’s record of scoring in seven consecutive games for Newcastle – a record also held by teammate Joe Willock.

Alexander Isak overtakes Shola Ameobi scoring record
Isak has been Newcastle’s best player in 2024 and he capped off the year in style with a superb December. So good in fact that Isak is up for the Player of the Month award.
He has carried that form into 2025 with his goal against Spurs, and by finding the back of the net in North London he also overtook Newcastle legend Shola Ameobi.
Saturday marked Isak’s 70th Premier League appearance for Newcastle, and in that time he has scored a remarkable 44 goals.
Ameobi, who spent 14 years of his career at St James’ Park, ended his spell on Tyneside with 43 goals in 298 appearances.
It means Isak has overtaken Ameobi’s goal tally in 228 fewer games – quite an impressive feat.
Alexander Isak is becoming a Newcastle legend
Newcastle supporters have been treated to some brilliant strikers across the years and Isak is right up there among the best.
Isak is one of the Premier League’s best strikers and on current form one of the best players in Europe.
To emphasise just how important he is at Newcastle, Eddie Howe wouldn’t swap Isak for anyone in world football. He is simply irreplaceable.

The only thing that will be nagging at Newcastle fans is the constant transfer rumours surrounding Isak. Arsenal want to sign Isak in 2025 but Newcastle have set a whopping £150m asking price to try and fend off bidders.
If he remains on Tyneside, and everything so far suggests he is happy to stay, he is on his way to becoming a legend.
