Kieran Trippier played his part in Newcastle United’s 3-0 win against Leicester City on Monday night, but he had other things on his mind after the game.
At the start of the season, it looked as if Kieran Trippier had now taken on the role of second-choice right-back to allow Tino Livramento the opportunity to play more minutes.
However, Lewis Hall’s season-ending injury means that the 34-year-old is back in Newcastle United’s starting XI on a more frequent basis.
The right-back has played exceptionally since his renewed game time for the Magpies, impressing Newcastle manager Eddie Howe in the process.
Trippier was brilliant against Leicester, winning all of his duels and completing every dribble on his way to a well-deserved clean sheet. Howe expressed injury concern for Trippier after the win against Brentford at St James’ Park, but it seems that any issues he had were not too serious.
Newcastle’s 3-0 win against Leicester has allowed them to leapfrog the likes of Manchester City and Aston Villa into fifth place in the Premier League, but Trippier took to social media to celebrate another accomplishment.

Kieran Trippier hits career appearance milestone during Newcastle win
Now in the latter stages of his career, Trippier has been a sensational servant to several clubs. The defender began his career at Manchester City with loan spells at Barnsley and Burnley before moving to the latter permanently in 2012. Trippier found great form at Tottenham Hotspur before signing for Spanish giants Atletico Madrid in 2019.
Since joining Newcastle, Trippier has made 117 appearances in all competitions, including 90 Premier League games.
The win against Leicester marked his 600th career appearance, a sensational feat for any footballer. Trippier spread the word about his achievement on social media, saying: “An achievement I’m very proud of to make 600 senior appearances in my career. I’m not done yet.”
The comments section was filled with Newcastle players sending emojis to congratulate him. Toon goalkeeper John Ruddy said: “Great achievement mate!”
Newcastle legend Alan Shearer said: “brilliant” with several clapping emojis. Elsewhere, former Newcastle shot-stopper Tim Krul commented two flames either side of the raised hands emoji.
Trippier was taken off for Emil Krafth late into the Leicester win, but there were no suggestions that the 600-appearance man was taken off with injury.
Will Kieran Trippier leave Newcastle United in the transfer window?
Trippier is now just 10 league appearances away from reaching 100 for Newcastle. Sadly, it is not a milestone he is able to hit this season. Newcastle only have eight games left to play, and there has even been the suggestion that Trippier may leave the Magpies at the end of the season in favour of a move abroad.
Recent reports have claimed that Newcastle are ‘anticipating’ Trippier’s departure this summer and are already looking at possible alternatives.

Tino Livramento is expected to be Newcastle’s starting right-back next season when Hall returns from injury, but Trippier’s possible exit means a gap needs to be filled when it comes to backup in defence, especially with Newcastle playing in Europe.
Trippier was a big part of Newcastle’s rise in the early stages of the takeover. No matter what happens in the future, fans should be thankful that Trippier took a chance and moved to the club when times were tough.
