Newcastle United have some big players missing for Tuesday night’s Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund, which could mean some youngsters are involved.

The Magpies have a bit of an injury crisis going on at the moment, while there is the added blow of Sandro Tonali being suspended for the rest of the season.

Sven Botman, Matt Targett, Jacob Murphy and Elliot Anderson are all going to miss the Champions League Group F tie with Borussia Dortmund, while it is also likely that Dan Burn will be absent. The same could go for Alexander Isak, despite being seen back in training ahead of the game.

With so many players out injured, it looks like Eddie Howe is going to have to trust in youth to flesh out his bench against the Bundesliga giants.

Newcastle first-team travel to Germany to face Borussia Dortmund

The club have released a selection of photos of the Toon players boarding the plane to travel to Germany ahead of Tuesday night’s game.

The likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Kieran Trippier and Anthony Gordon have all been pictured, as have some Toon youngsters.

Lewis Miley is there after returning at the weekend. He has been out of action due to illness, but the 17-year-old is fit once again. The teenager has made one appearance so far this season, and would no doubt love to make it two when Newcastle face Dortmund.

Two players with zero senior Newcastle appearances set for Champions League involvement

But Miley isn’t the only Toon talent travelling to Germany with the senior squad, and two players who have been spotted are yet to make their competitive debut for the club.

On Newcastle United’s official Instagram page, 18-year-old striker Ben Parkinson and 21-year-old midfielder Lucas De Bolle can be seen preparing to board the plane. That would suggest they are going to be involved with the senior team on Tuesday night.

Parkinson has featured for the Magpies’ Under-19s side in the UEFA Youth League this season, but Howe’s injury woes look like it could lead to the teenager moving up to the first-team this week.

It would be a tremendous moment if either Parkinson or De Bolle made their Toon debut against Borussia Dortmund, but their involvement shows just how stretched our squad is right now.
