Even when Newcastle United were struggling against Manchester City on Wednesday night, the St James’ Park crowd still had fun.

The atmosphere was raucous in the second half, as the Magpies pulled off an upset to knock Man City out of the Carabao Cup.

It was an incredible second half performance from Eddie Howe’s side, who will now play Manchester Untied in the fourth round of the competition.

Making it through to the next round felt impossible at half time, with Man City completely dominating.

And during that dominance, Newcastle fans did their best to try and wind up one of Pep Guardiola’s players.

Newcastle fans mock Jack Grealish during Carabao Cup win

Man City won a corner in the 34th minute, which Jack Grealish took. He ran over the to Strawberry Corner to deliver the ball into the box, where he got a reminder of his previous misdemeanours from the Toon fans.

As he prepared to whip the ball in, he was bombarded with a chorus of ‘Miggy Almiron, Almiron, Miggy Almiron!’.

This was in reference to the England international mocking Miguel Almiron last year during Man City’s 2022 Premier League title celebrations.

Grealish has since apologised for his comments, while Almiron has been a completely different player following the dig. But this was Grealish’s first visit to St James’ Park since the incident, and Toon fans took the opportunity to show their support to the Paraguayan speedster.

It was a pretty poor night for Grealish. Not only was his side knocked out of the Carabao Cup, but he really struggled to have an impact in the game.

He was completely shut down by Tino Livramento, who was absolutely outstanding on his first ever Toon start.

Perhaps Grealish should have played more like Almiron on Wednesday night!
