Newcastle fans must end Jack Grealish feud after Miguel Almiron apology

Newcastle United fans have not been happy with Jack Grealish this season, but now the Manchester City man has delivered an apology to Toon winger Miguel Almiron.

Grealish made a comment about the Paraguayan during Manchester City’s title celebrations earlier this year, criticising teammate Riyad Mahrez by saying that he ‘played like Almiron‘ in their final game of the season.

It was a needless and unprofessional dig from Grealish, mocking a fellow pro for no reason whatsoever.

But since then, Miggy has been on fire. He is Newcastle’s top scorer, finding the net eight times this season. He’s won goal of the month and player of the month, and even got a goal against Manchester City. Sadly, Grealish wasn’t there to witness it.

‘Play like Almiron’ has turned into a compliment, with the 28-year-old the surprise star of the Premier League so far.

And finally Grealish has spoke about the incident, and confirmed that he did issue an apology to Almiron for what he said.

Jack Grealish’s apology to Miguel Almiron

The England international has been speaking to the media ahead of the Three Lions’ game with Senegal, and addressed the comments he made about Almiron.

“I messaged Matt Targett because I’m close with him from Villa and I said to him ‘can you message him for me and say to him that I apologise, I obviously didn’t mean it’,” Grealish said.

“When I look back on that, that was just one thing that was stupid of me to say. I shouldn’t have said it.

“I didn’t realise it was a video to go out, I thought it was just private. But even in private I shouldn’t have said it because he’s a fellow professional.

“I’m actually buzzing for him, I’ve had a lot of stick off the Newcastle fans and rightly so. At the end of the day, they are backing their player which I fully understand. He seems like the most harmless, nice guy, so fair play.”

Time to move on

To be fair to Grealish, he sounds incredibly genuine in his apology. He realised he did something stupid, and made sure to apologise to Almiron for what he had said.

However, it is interesting that Grealish has only spoke about it now. This whole thing could have ended months ago if he had just spoke out.

But a line should be drawn now. It is done. Grealish did what he did, and he apologised.

While Almiron’s form ironically coincides with Grealish’s comments, the £100million player should not be credited for awakening the beast inside Miggy. He deserves all the credit for his hard work and endeavour under Eddie Howe.

Almiron has added end product to his game, and has been an absolute star this season. Grealish wants him to keep scoring, and so do Newcastle fans.

But the feud between the Toon Army and Grealish should end now.
