‘What a player’: Bruno Guimaraes was so impressed with Newcastle 29-year-old against Man United

Newcastle United were forced into an early tactical tweak against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup, and it ended up having a huge impact on the game.

Matt Targett was named in Newcastle‘s starting XI, and appeared to begin the game in the middle of midfield.

However, he suffered an injury incredibly early and was forced off in the fifth minute. He was replaced by Miguel Almiron, which forced Eddie Howe to shuffle his pack once more.

The substitution at Old Trafford led to Joelinton moving back into midfield and Almiron playing on the left wing, and it was a change that helped give Newcastle the lead.

An incredible run from the right from Tino Livramento eventually led to him playing Almiron in. With his left foot, he cleverly shifted the ball beyond Andre Onana and into the Man United net.

It was a fantastic finish, and a goal that was made possible by the early change Howe was forced to make.

It was the high point on an impressive night for the Paraguayan, who had been hoping for a bit of a rest after being named on the bench.

But Almiron had to play basically the entire game, and played an important role in Newcastle winning 3-0 to advance to the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup.

After the game, Almiron took to social media. He posted a series of photos of him celebrating his goal at Old Trafford, and it prompted a reply from his teammate Bruno Guimaraes.

The Brazilian midfielder replied: ‘What a player’.

The pair celebrated together at Old Trafford, as Bruno was warming up down that end of the pitch when Almiron broke the deadlock. They embraced on the turf, showing the incredible bond they have struck up since Bruno joined the Magpies at the beginning of 2022.

Bruno was absolutely buzzing for Almiron, as was every Toon fan inside the ground and watching at home.

It was the 29-year-old’s fourth goal of the season, as he continues to impress in black and white. He has now scored in four important wins, finding the net against Sheffield United, Burnley, Paris Saint-Germain and now Manchester United.
