Ruben Amorim was helpless as Newcastle United breezed past his Manchester United side on Monday night.
Eddie Howe’s side were utterly dominant, as Newcastle beat Manchester United 2-0 at Old Trafford thanks to goals from Alexander Isak and Joelinton.
The Magpies could have won by more, as Alexander Isak continued his great form. The Man United defenders could not cope with his brilliance, as he netted his 13th goal of the season.
Alan Shearer was impressed with Newcastle, who won at Old Trafford in the league for the first time since 2013. In fact, it is just their second league win at Old Trafford since 1972.
For so long there has been a gulf between these two clubs, but now momentum has shifted in Newcastle’s favour.
Ruben Amorim delivers Newcastle United verdict

That has been easy to see over the past few years. Since Eddie Howe arrived, Newcastle have only lost twice to Man United. On both occasions, it was difficult to understand how we fell short.
But that did not happen on Monday night, as the Magpies rose to the challenge and put in the type of performance they were expected to produce. They were dominant from the first minute to the last, as they moved up to fifth in the Premier League.
In the eyes of Man United boss Ruben Amorim, it is simply clear that Newcastle United are a better team than the Red Devils right now.
“They were the better team and they started very strong,” he told Sky Sports.
“It was very hard for us to turn it around after we conceded the first goal because of the results before and we didn’t have the positioning to cope with the difficult moments. The players suffered a lot on the pitch and it was really hard on us.
“Newcastle are a better team.”
When Newcastle play Manchester United again
It used to be scary playing against Manchester United. Now it is a delight.
The change of manager has not brought about a change in performance, as a passive Man United side were dominated by Eddie Howe’s side.
The midfield battle was barely a battle, with Sandro Tonali, Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes appearing to win every duel.
As for Martin Dubravka, he enjoyed a very quiet return to Old Trafford as he picked up his fourth consecutive clean sheet in the Premier League.
It was so straightforward, and now Newcastle must wait until April to play against Man United again.
They are due to travel to St James’ Park on April 12th, as the sides face each other again towards the business end of the 2024/25 Premier League season.
I wonder if Amorim will still believe Newcastle are comfortably better than Manchester United by the time they head to the North East.
