Predicted Newcastle lineup to face Burnley: Howe makes Livramento decision, Wilson starts

Eddie Howe actually has a bit of a selection dilemma ahead of Newcastle United’s game against Burnley on Saturday.

On the one hand, he has a side that beat Sheffield United 8-0 on Sunday. On the other, he made wholesale changes against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup and those players dragged Newcastle into the next round of the competition.

And sandwiched in between those two factors is the looming threat of Paris Saint-Germain, who will be at St James’ Park next Wednesday for a mouthwatering Champions League tie.

There are a lot of moving parts for Howe to consider, and this is the Newcastle lineup we predict he will go with against Burnley

Tino Livramento drops back to the Newcastle bench

Tino Livramento made his first ever Newcastle United start on Wednesday night, and won the Player Of The Match award. He was outstanding, taking Kieran Trippier’s place at right-back.

But despite his epic performance, the £32million man will likely drop back to the bench. Trippier is Newcastle’s main man in defence, and will most certainly start against his former club Burnley.

Hopefully we get the chance to see Livramento off the bench, as that would mean Trippier gets a bit of rest ahead of PSG.

Elsewhere in defence, we expect Howe to go with his tried and tested back four. That means returns for Fabian Schar, Dan Burn and Sven Botman.

Local lads return to the midfield against Burnley

Sean Longstaff is making Newcastle tick at the minute, but did not feature in the Carabao Cup win over Man City.

He will hopefully return alongside Bruno Guimaraes in midfield, leaving one place up for grabs.

Joelinton did well on his return, but the third midfield role should go to Elliot Anderson. He was exceptional against Sheffield United, and deserves to start a third consecutive Premier League game for the first time in his career.

Callum Wilson leads the line

Alexander Isak was the match-winner on Wednesday, but should return to the bench at the weekend.

He and Callum Wilson are dovetailing brilliantly, both scoring four goals each this season.

Hopefully Wilson can shake off a hamstring problem and is fit enough to start against Burnley, who he has a good record against. He has played against the Clarets 11 times in his career, scoring six goals.
