Don Goodman was extremely impressed with Newcastle United debutant against Manchester City giving him the Player of the Match award.
Newcastle signed Tino Livramento from Southampton for £32million in the summer and other than a couple of brief cameos in the Premier League, he’s not really been seen by the Toon Army until tonight.
Making his first start for the Magpies, Livramento found himself tasked with trying to nullify Jack Grealish.
Livramento was the one bright light in Newcastle’s first half
Livramento was possibly the only Newcastle player to come off at half time with any real credibility after a really difficult 45 minutes where Newcastle barely touched the ball.
Eddie Howe‘s half-time team talk clearly worked as did the introduction of Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon after the break as Newcastle were like a team possessed.

Coming out of the gates quickly and snatching the lead, Newcastle continued to push, press and dominate the second half, and Tino Livramento was a huge, huge part of the win.
Tino kept Grealish quiet all night and was then tasked with trying to keep Jeremy Doku at bay.
Livramento has given Kieran Trippier plenty to think about
Things got a bit more tricky for Livramento after Doku’s arrival into the game, but he didn’t let his performance slip and late on practically won the game for Newcastle with a superb challenge that denied an almost certain goal.

His efforts saw him being handed the Player of the Match accolade by Sky Sports commentator Don Goodman who said of his performance: “For your debut up against Grealish and then Doku and come out on top, he’s been outstanding. Absolutely outstanding.”
As was noted in commentary by Bill Leslie, Livramento’s biggest problem now is Kieran Trippier as the England international stands in his way for that right-back spot for Newcastle.
