Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has paid tribute to the Sheffield United fans following the Magpies’ 8-0 win at Bramall Lane.
Eddie Howe‘s side ran riot against Sheffield United, with eight different players scoring as Newcastle followed up their Champions League adventures with an emphatic victory in the Premier League.
Newcastle have now won back-to-back league games, while they have also kept three clean sheets in a row in all competitions.
They were relentless at Bramall Lane, while their opponents were fairly embarrassing at times. Sean Longstaff started the scoring following some brilliant work from Anthony Gordon, who was brought on early to replace the injured Harvey Barnes.
Elsewhere, there were goals for Dan Burn, Sven Botman, Callum Wilson, Gordon, Miguel Almiron, Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak.

The defending from Sheffield United was shameful, with Newcastle pulling them apart at will.
The Magpies took no prisoners, as the home fans were forced on to watch their team suffer a humiliating defeat.

After the game, former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer took to Twitter to provide his immediate reaction.
He wrote: “What result, what a performance Newcastle United. Well done to all the Sheffield United fans for staying and singing and supporting their team right until the end.”

A tough watch for the home fans as Newcastle celebrate
Shearer has paid tribute to the Sheffield United fans who stayed, although plenty didn’t. When the floodgates opened in the second half, a lot of Blades supporters headed for the exit – and you can’t blame them.
For Newcastle, it caps off a great week, and it was the perfect performance after the Champions League draw with AC Milan.
There was some concern over how the Magpies would manage following an emotionally and physically draining week on the road, but they were outstanding at Bramall Lane.
It was a brilliant result and a brilliant performance from Newcastle United, and one that should serve as a statement of intent after a slow start to the season.
