Newcastle United kept another clean sheet as Eddie Howe’s side beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Lewis Hall may have missed Newcastle United’s win over Nottingham Forest, but Eddie Howe can be happy defensively.

The Magpies beat Union Saint-Gilloise 4-0 in midweek and have backed that up with another clean sheet against Nottingham Forest.

Bruno Guimaraes fired home a beauty to put Newcastle 1-0 up against Forest, before Nick Woltemade grabbed his third goal in three home games at Newcastle.

Newcastle United fans on Malick Thiaw vs Nottingham Forest

Woltemade has become Newcastle’s new goalscoring hero and St James’ Park can’t have seen many better penalties than the one he scored against Forest.

Germany have called Woltemade up for their games in this international break, but defender Malick Thiaw has been left out.

Thiaw joined Newcastle from AC Milan in August and now appears to have nailed down a spot in the Newcastle back line.

Thiaw partnered Sven Botman once again on Sunday and left Newcastle fans impressed with his performance.

Supporters took to social media to rave about Thiaw, suggesting that he was ‘unbelievable’ and ‘incredible’ against Forest.

Others branded Thiaw ‘sensational’ and ‘sublime’, while claiming that former club AC Milan should be paid more money for his signature.

Some cannot believe Thiaw has been snubbed by Germany, and think that Newcastle have ultimately secured a bargain.

Malick Thiaw will surely catch Julian Nagelsmann’s eye

Thiaw has only picked up three caps for Germany, and his most recent appearance came in 2023.

The fact that defenders such as Nnamdi Collins and Yann Aurel Bisseck have been called up more recently suggests that Thiaw may well be far down the pecking order right now.

Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann won’t be able to ignore Thiaw, though, as he will be keeping close tabs on Magpies teammate Woltemade.

All Thiaw can do is continue to impress for Newcastle and hope that Nagelsmann brings him back into the Germany fold.

Thiaw’s early performances suggest that he deserves a recall, and his World Cup dream should be alive as long as he continues to shine.
