Alan Shearer reveals his favourite ever Newcastle United shirt and the fans will love it

Alan Shearer wore some iconic Newcastle United kits during his Toon career.

The former Newcastle United striker always donned Adidas shirts during his time at St James’ Park, and supporters were delighted to see the German brand return to the North East last summer.

Adidas are making the Newcastle United kits once again, and have done an incredible job so far. The three they provided for the 2024/25 season are fantastic, which has resulted in supporters putting a lot of money back into the club.

However, the rumoured Newcastle kit for next season does not sound as appealing.

Newcastle United have also gone retro as of late, with the club reissuing the black and white shirt they wore between 1995 and 1997.

The iconic grandad collar coupled with the Newcastle Brown Ale sponsor is back, and Toon legend Alan Shearer has admitted on The Rest Is Football podcast that it is his favourite ever Newcastle United shirt.

“I think that was my favourite one,” he said.

“Newcastle have just brought a retro top out and it’s flying in the club shop, I’m told. So that would tell me it is a lot of Newcastle fans’ favourite as well.

“It’s definitely mine.”

Adidas decision will help Newcastle United’s PSR position

A lot of Newcastle United fans will agree with Shearer’s choice of favourite ever shirt.

That was a golden era for the Magpies, as Kevin Keegan’s Entertainers made Toon fans believe.

Now that is the job of Eddie Howe, but his side are being held back by PSR. Newcastle United have endured three transfer windows without any major signings, with the Premier League’s financial rules hindering the Magpies’ ability to invest.

Newcastle need to increase their revenue, whether that is through players sales or sponsorships.

It can also be through merchandise, which is why the Adidas partnership is massively helping the club. Now that Adidas have replaced Castore, Toon fans are suddenly desperate to buy what the club are putting out.
