Jamie Carragher claims Newcastle have a ‘sensational’ player who looks prone to injuries

Newcastle United’s luck when it comes to injuries leaves an awful lot to be desired.

Indeed, the crisis at Newcastle got so bad last season that pundits such as Joe Cole questioned exactly what was going on, such were the extent of the problems.

Sadly, they have reared their ugly heads again, with Kieran Trippier already ruled out due to a hamstring issue and Callum Wilson recently suffering a setback in his attempts to return to full fitness.

Anthony Gordon missed the loss at Chelsea on Sunday due to a groin injury, while all of Lewis Miley, Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles are yet to play at all.

Alexander Isak is another who has been dealing with knocks this season, with Eddie Howe of the belief the stop-start nature of his campaign has robbed the Sweden star of his very best form.

Speaking about the striker on Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher raised a concern, despite also lavishing him with praise.

Jamie Carragher suggests Newcastle star Alexander Isak looks injury prone

Asked about Isak before the game at Chelsea, Carragher spoke in glowing terms about the forward’s quality.

He did, however, also suggest that Isak rarely looks as if he will be able to play a full season, such are the frequency of his absences.

“He very rarely seems like he could play a full season,” he said.

“Every few weeks you feel like Isak’s out, he’s missing a game through one reason or another.

“He’s got to make sure he stays fit. He’s been a sensational signing for them and I think he’s one of the top centre-forwards in the Premier League.”

Injuries might be what keeps Alexander Isak at Newcastle

Hailed as a “generational” talent for his performances last season, there can be little doubt about Isak’s quality, hence why teams such as Arsenal are reportedly keen on his services.

However, what Carragher is saying undoubtedly has some merit. Isak, according to Transfermarkt data, has missed 36 games since joining the club in the summer of 2022.

Interestingly, TBR Football insider Graeme Bailey recently told Geordie Boot Boys that such concerns could be putting other clubs off a move for Isak…

“Chelsea and Arsenal showed an interest in the summer, but Isak also has a lot of interest from around Europe. His injury record is a concern for some clubs, I am told. We’ve seen it this season. He still doesn’t look fully fit.”
