Newcastle United co-owner Jamie Reuben could not hide his delight as the Magpies smashed Sunderland 3-0 to advance in the FA Cup.

It was a must-win game for Eddie Howe, and his side did exactly that. While there were plenty of nerves in the buildup, it ended up being a very comfortable afternoon at the Stadium Of Light.

Newcastle ended their rotten run in derbies with a convincing win, and put themselves into the fourth round of the FA Cup in the process.

An own goal by Dan Ballard and an Alexander Isak brace gave the Magpies joy on Wearside, winning their first Tyne-Wear derby since 2011.

There was a real sense of fear going into the game. A defeat to Sunderland would have been massively embarrassing, and it came at a time when Newcastle have been struggling.

But they strutted around the Stadium Of Light like they owned the place, and Toon co-owner Jamie Reuben was ecstatic with the victory.

He wrote: “Delighted today for our team, supporters and OUR city !!! HWTL.”

Newcastle were dominant against Sunderland

North East bragging rights have gone to Newcastle United, as expected. The gulf in quality between the two sides was clear throughout the game, with Howe’s men easing to victory.

They managed the occasion brilliantly and dominated against Sunderland. Michael Beale’s side did rally at 2-0 down, but Newcastle defended resolutely to protect their clean sheet.

It is a fantastic day for the club, and this will hopefully prove to be a catalyst for the rest of the season. Newcastle have been struggling as of late, but this victory can be the beginning of a strong second half of the campaign.

Co-owner Jamie Reuben is delighted with the win, just like every member of the Toon Army.
