‘World class’ midfielder who Newcastle were interested in signing in January wants a Premier League move

Newcastle United were very limited in what they could spend in January but they could make some big moves in the upcoming summer window.

The Magpies had shown some interest in Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich, though a move was never really going to happen in the middle of the season.

However, Kimmich has just over a year left on his current contract and HITC are reporting that he would prefer a move to the Premier League in the summer amid Newcastle’s interest.

If there’s one thing that Newcastle are lacking in their squad when it comes to being successful and winning trophies is experienced, and Kimmich has certainly got that from his time in Germany.

At the age of 29, the midfielder has already won eight league titles – the ninth is proving harder to achieve – as well as a number of domestic cups and a Champions League title back in 2019.

But it looks as though the German international is now looking for a new challenge with his time in Munich coming to an end as he looks unlikely to extend his contract which runs out in 2025.

Kimmich would like to make a switch to the Premier League, and Newcastle would be more than welcome to allow him to challenge himself in a new division and help them to push on for European football and possible silverware.

Newcastle aren’t alone in interest of star midfielder

Newcastle knew from the beginning that they wouldn’t be the only club interested when the news first emerged that Kimmich could be on the market this summer, he’s not exactly a hidden gem.

They will remain confident that they can attract such impressive talents, but with the likes of Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal all monitoring his situation it won’t get much tougher for the Geordies.

Newcastle are certainly in the market for a more defensive minded midfielder, and his ability to also play at right-back makes him an even more valuable asset, so it’s clear to see why they were interested in the ‘world class’ star to begin with.

Whether that interest is reciprocated from the player himself is another matter and they will hope that by the time the summer rolls around they will be in a stronger position to convince him.
