Liverpool and Man City want to buy ‘world class’ midfielder who Newcastle were hoping to sign

Liverpool and Man City have now joined the race for one of Newcastle United’s summer targets after their interest in the midfielder was revealed earlier this month.

Last week, reports from Germany suggested that Newcastle were making an approach for Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich who will be entering the final year of his contract in the summer.

Now, journalist Christian Falk has claimed that both Liverpool and Manchester City are also keen to bring the German international into their own squads.

It was always going to be difficult to persuade Kimmich, an eight-time Bundesliga winner and one-time Champions League winner, to join Tyneside in the summer.

But that task has been made even tougher with Liverpool and City both rivalling Newcastle for the 28-year-old midfielder with both far more likely able to offer higher wages as well as Champions League football.

Kimmich looks very likely to make a move in the summer and it would be a huge statement of intent if Newcastle were somehow able to capture him to star in their team next season.

The ‘world class‘ midfielder has still played a key role for the German giants this season, making 23 appearances across all competitions, but could be keen on finding a new challenge in the very near future.

Whether or not it’s Kimmich who they target as their main priority, Newcastle will be looking to bring in some big name players this summer, especially a midfielder, which will really raise the expectations for next season.

Having not got a lot in the budget to spend in January, it’s expected that that could all be different in the summer when the money from the Champions League and Adidas deal starts to come in to effect.

That’s without mentioning if they potentially sell some key players, with Kieran Trippier rumoured to be going in the opposite direction to Bavaria, which would also raise funds.

Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron are also options to sell, though it’s unlikely that all three will leave in one summer leaving Eddie Howe very short of key men.
