It feels like an age since Newcastle United signed a player.
While the likes of Lloyd Kelly and Odysseas Vlachodimos did arrive from fellow Premier League clubs over the course of the summer, to say either strengthened Eddie Howe’s side would be too much.
Newcastle haven’t signed a player ready-made for the first-team since the summer of 2023, which makes the fact that Howe is keeping them competitive really rather remarkable.
Still, at some point, that has to change.
Indeed, Newcastle insiders think they are in a healthy financial position ahead of the summer transfer window after another quiet time of things in January.
Newcastle are consistently linked with right wingers, so it would seem logical that it will be an area the club will look to strengthen at the end of the season.
To that end, they were handed a late boost on deadline day when it comes to Tyler Dibling.

Tottenham walk away from talks to sign Newcastle United target Tyler Dibling
Newcastle are expected to bid for Dibling at some point in 2025, having tracked the Southampton youngster for a while now.
Still, such is the level of excitement in regard to the teenager, other clubs are also said to be keen.
According to The Standard, Tottenham were in talks with the Saints about a move to sign Dibling but were put off by their asking price – which is said to have been even more than £55million previously reported.
Tyler Dibling compared to Newcastle United star Jacob Murphy
Jacob Murphy is in fine form for Newcastle this season but it remains to be seen if he can keep that level up. Miguel Almiron, after all, enjoyed a brilliant run of form during the 2022/23 campaign but that later dipped.
Murphy’s assists numbers this season are certainly impressive and the signing of a new right-winger doesn’t necessarily mean the Newcastle forward has to leave. Competition for places can only be a good thing.
| Metric | Jacob Murphy | Tyler Dibling |
| Goals | 4 | 2 |
| Assists | 8 | 0 |
| Shots (per game) | 1.4 | 1.2 |
| Dribbles (per game) | 0.7 | 1.4 |
| Key passes (per game) | 1.3 | 0.7 |
Dibling is a player on the rise and there is huge excitement about his potential. While Murphy beats him in a number of key attacking metrics this season, it’s important to remember Dibling is a teenager playing in a Saints team to have seriously struggled.
Hopefully, come the summer, Newcastle will have a better chance of signing Dibling.
