Newcastle United have been linked with the signing of Edmond Tapsoba, here is everything you need to know about the Toon target.

Eddie Howe has made no secret of his desire to sign a new centre-back this summer.

Newcastle have had four bids rejected for Marc Guehi, which has left the Magpies searching for more viable alternatives.

This has seen the Toon army seemingly turn their attention to Europe, with Newcastle eyeing a move for Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba.

Edmond Tapsoba age

Edmond Faycal Tapsoba is currently 25 years old at the time of writing. He was born on February 2nd, 1999.

Edmond Tapsoba nationality

Tapsoba is from Burkina Faso, growing in the country’s capital city of Ouagadougou. He would often skip school to play football on the streets, despite never playing organised football until the age of fourteen.

Upon turning professional, the defender made his international debut for Burkina Faso aged just 17, going on to make over 45 caps for his country so far.

Edmond Tapsoba is a centre-back who is able to play on either side of the backline, regularly filling in on the left and right side of Bayern Leverkusen’s back three.

The defender is primarily right-footed but he is also very comfortable using his weaker left foot, which plays a big part in how Leverkusen build out from the back.

Edmond Tapsoba is simply everything you want from a modern-day centre-back.

Comfortable on the ball, strong, quick, and fantastic in the air, the Burkina Faso international played an integral role in Xabi Alonso’s system as Leverkusen won the Bundesliga unbeaten.

The 25-year-old is also very versatile, able to play in either a back three or four, which could present Eddie Howe with some much-needed tactical flexibility if the defender were to arrive at St James’ Park.
