What Newcastle United sources are saying about Anthony Gordon to Liverpool, two things need to happen

Liverpool are once again being linked with a move for Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon during the summer transfer window.

Gordon almost left Newcastle United in 2024 for Anfield, but ended up staying at St James’ Park and enduring a relatively underwhelming campaign.

Indeed, Liverpool are interested in a £100million move for Gordon, who only signed a new contract on Tyneside last season.

Luckily, Newcastle do not need to sell any of their best players, even if there would be obvious financial benefits to cashing in this summer.

Still, it’s hard to imagine Eddie Howe actively wanting Gordon to leave. With that in mind, an update from The Chronicle is interesting.

Two things need to happen for Liverpool to sign Anthony Gordon

They claim that Newcastle sources remain relaxed about the 24-year-old’s future at the club.

It’s also suggested that two things need to happen if the club are going to entertain the idea of selling up.

Firstly, Liverpool would have to put an offer together that would get Newcastle talking. Secondly, the player’s agents would have to push for a move.

Elliot Anderson remains the largest sale Newcastle have ever made.

Newcastle’s most expensive departures also include Andy Carroll and Georginio Wijnaldum, both of whom joined Liverpool.

Newcastle value Gordon at around £100million, so getting anything close to that would instantly make him the club’s record sale.

However, there is little suggestion they actually will sell Gordon. If Liverpool come in with a big offer, perhaps the conversation will change.

Until that happens, however, Gordon looks set to stay at Newcastle for next season at least.
