Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes once again attracted interest from Manchester City this summer.

Guimaraes has long been linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium, having established himself as one of the Premier League’s best midfielders since joining Newcastle United in January 2022.

Earlier this week, Geordie Boot Boys revealed that Manchester City made a move to sign Guimaraes from Newcastle.

Pep Guardiola’s side were also interested in Toon teammate Tino Livramento but both advances were swiftly rejected.

While City did ask whether Guimaraes was available, no official talks took place and they moved on to sign AC Milan star Tijjani Reijnders instead.

Now, some added insight has emerged.

Bruno Guimaraes didn’t have his head turned by Manchester City

According to The Chronicle, those behind the scenes noted that Guimaraes didn’t have his head turned even despite City making their interest known. He is said to have told people around him that he remained committed to Newcastle.

That feels particularly significant following a summer in which Alexander Isak forced his way out of the club as soon as Liverpool came calling.

The report adds that the enquiry came from “intermediaries on the agent circuit” when the transfer window briefly opened before the Club World Cup.

It also reiterates that Guimaraes is open to talks over a new contract at Newcastle, with his current deal set to expire in the summer of 2028.

Bruno Guimaraes has confirmed he never made a U-turn on Newcastle

It was a bruising summer for the club, but it would have been worse had either Guimaraes or Livramento joined City.

Interestingly, Newcastle would be prepared to offer Livramento a new contract too.

Ever since he arrived, Guimaraes has been the beating heart of this Newcastle team. A hugely popular figure amongst the supporters, it’s difficult to think of a Toon side without him.

Speaking before Newcastle’s defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League, the 27-year-old confirmed he never changed his mind about wanting to stay at Newcastle.

“I have never changed my mind and I still look to make history at this club.

“We have been in the Champions League two times in the last three years, that is unbelievable for us.”

Guimaraes has made 159 appearances for Newcastle United since joining the club from Lyon in January 2022.
