Tino Livramento is not the only Newcastle United player who Man City tried to buy this summer

Manchester City wanted to sign Tino Livramento this summer, and Geordie Boot Boys understand they also asked Newcastle United about another one of their stars.

Pep Guardiola was in the market for a right-back this summer, which resulted in Manchester City showing an interest in Tino Livramento.

Newcastle United stood firm throughout, remaining adamant that Livramento would not be leaving. That proved to be the case, with the England international starting every game for Eddie Howe’s side so far this season.

While there were discussions between the two clubs over the 22-year-old, they did not lead to Manchester City getting their wish. And that was also the case when Bruno Guimaraes’ name came up in conversation.

Manchester City asked Newcastle United about Bruno Guimaraes

Transfer expert Graeme Bailey has exclusively told Geordie Boot Boys that Manchester City asked Newcastle United about the possibility of signing Bruno Guimaraes during the summer transfer window.

They were swiftly told that the Brazilian midfielder was not available, just like Tino Livramento.

“Bruno’s name also came up in the Livramento discussions,” Bailey said.

“That is from the Manchester City side, asking about a player who they have loved and admired ever since he arrived in England.

“It’s not a huge shock. It was short-lived and no official talks took place. But City did ask the question, before they bought Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan.”

Bruno Guimaraes has shown his commitment to Newcastle United

Pep Guardiola loves Bruno Guimaraes. That is not a secret.

The 27-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Manchester City in 2024, but they opted against activating his £100million release clause.

Since then, Bruno has been named Newcastle United captain and cemented his legacy on Tyneside. He is a club legend, guiding Newcastle United to the Carabao Cup in March 2025.

The Brazil international continues to go from strength to strength at St James’ Park, and that was certainly the case during a summer that was dominated by the Alexander Isak saga.

It was recently reported by the Athletic that Bruno ‘restored order’ at Newcastle United, reaffirming his allegiance to the club that bought him from Lyon in January 2022.

Bruno is idolised on Tyneside, while his love for Newcastle United is undeniable. That is why Toon officials quickly rebuffed any suggestion of a move to the Etihad Stadium during the summer.
