Newcastle United sold Alexander Isak to Liverpool during the summer transfer window, signing Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa in his place.

The Magpies enjoyed a positive transfer window, making six senior signings, including two on the final few days of the summer.

Newcastle United welcomed the likes of Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa to the club as part of their summer recruitment drive, while German Nick Woltemade became Newcastle’s record signing, having joined for a deal worth up to £69m.

His arrival came just a couple of days before Liverpool agreed a British record fee with Newcastle for Alexander Isak. The 25-year-old had made it clear he wanted to leave Newcastle in the summer transfer window, and got the move he was so desperate for on deadline day.

While Newcastle have spent well, a new report has suggested something rather worrying for fans.

Newcastle United’s ceiling has dropped following Alexander Isak’s exit, say insiders

While Isak lost the trust of the Newcastle fans before his departure, it is clear that the club have lost a quality player, who is deemed the best striker in the world by some.

Newcastle have done well to sign Woltemade and Wissa in the midst of his departure, but it remains to be seen whether they will get up to speed with Eddie Howe’s style of play.

With that being said, an interesting transfer report from The Athletic has stated that some inside the club believe Newcastle’s ceiling has been lowered following Isak’s deadline day exit.

There is a realisation that Woltemade will need time to acclimatise to life in the Premier League, while there is hope that Wissa can recapture the same strides he hit last season. Newcastle can brag about their quality in all areas of the pitch, but they are not as much of an ‘elite’ team without Isak.

Newcastle United can still make history without Alexander Isak

No matter what people say, Newcastle were never a one-man team while Isak was there. The likes of Anthony Gordon and Jacob Murphy were as much of an important part of the attack as Isak was. One would argue that the Sweden international would not have had as much success had it not been for the wingers with whom he developed such a good partnership.

Newcastle are now in a new era following Isak’s exit, one which has brought a younger, greener striker to the club, while a wiser head in Wissa has also arrived to replace Callum Wilson.

Fans must not forget what Newcastle have done over the last couple of years. Whether it was with or without Isak, many people in that team can proudly say they played a part in the Magpies’ recent success.

Isak wants to win trophies at Liverpool, a club that now expects to do so following their lucrative summer spending that saw them break the transfer record on two occasions.

Newcastle made history with their Carabao Cup win in March, and with the Champions League fixtures on the horizon, even more history could be in the offing.
