Newcastle United fans have reacted after seeing Bruno Guimaraes’ sensational gesture after the Magpies’ historic Carabao Cup win in March 2025.

It was a day that no fan would forget in a hurry. Newcastle United had finally won a major trophy after an agonising 56-year wait.

Dan Burn scored a brilliant header which was praised by Liverpool boss Arne Slot. The Dutchman admitted he had never seen a goal scored like that until the final.

Newcastle’s star striker Alexander Isak found the back of the net in the second half, a sensational finish on the half-volley to put the Magpies 2-0 up. Newcastle survived a late scare from Liverpool to lift the trophy and send the entirety of the fanbase into dreamland.

The day after the final, Alan Pardew called Eddie Howe immortal, and there were even calls for the 47-year-old to have a statue built on the grounds of St James’ Park to symbolise the achievement.

While it is not a statue, Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes has done something which confirms that the cup win will be a part of him forever – the fans absolutely love it.

Newcastle United fans react as Bruno Guimaraes gets a Carabao Cup trophy tattoo

Guimaraes became Newcastle’s captain at the start of the 2024/25 campaign. The Brazilian revealed that he wanted to be more involved with the team during contract negotiations with Howe in 2023.

After a shaky start to the season, Guimaraes guided Newcastle to the Carabao Cup win and Champions League qualification, cementing his legendary status on Tyneside.

Once Newcastle qualified for the Champions League, Guimaraes crawled along the St James’ Park pitch as a way of thanking God for the success throughout the season. Now, the 27-year-old has immortalised the cup win on his body by getting a tattoo of the Carabao Cup on his leg. The tattoo features black and white stripes and the captain’s armband signifying his contribution to the game.

Upon seeing the work, Newcastle fans shared their thoughts on the social media platform X.

“I love Bruno Guimaraes with every bone in my body.” said one fan, while another added: “This is why you can’t hate him ever, his passion for the club is unmatched.”

This Newcastle supporter jokingly said: “Ah he’ll regret that… When we go on to win dozens of trophies and he starts running out of space for them all!”

“A true adopted Geordie,” said this proud Newcastle fan.

Another fan added: “Statue player this fella.”

Finally, this Newcastle fan said: “He just gets it doesn’t he, one of our own.”

With a big summer on the horizon, Newcastle are in the process of building a brilliant team to compete in the Champions League.

That news will be taken brilliantly by Guimaraes, who made it clear that Newcastle needed more players in the transfer window. After securing Champions League football, Guimaraes told Newcastle the squad was not big enough to compete next season.

His message was clearly heard by Howe and his recruitment team who are making tracks to bring players to Tyneside. Anthony Elanga could soon be joining Newcastle and James Trafford has already agreed personal terms, so there could be two quality players joining the club in the next week.

Guimaraes gets every trophy he wins tattooed on him. He did the same when he won an Olympic gold medal and the Copa do Brasil. The midfielder has etched a piece of Newcastle’s history on himself, history that he helped create.
