Nick Woltemade appeared happy with Dan Burn’s welcome into the Newcastle United squad.

On Saturday, Newcastle announced the club-record signing of Woltemade

The Germany striker has signed a long-term deal after arriving from Stuttgart for a fee worth around £65million.

Woltemade could make his Newcastle debut at home to Wolves after the international break in September.

For Newcastle, it’s brilliant to see them end their long-running pursuit of a new striker.

Indeed, this has been a bruising summer for the club and key targets have gone elsewhere on a seemingly constant basis. Woltemade, however, is through the door and Burn appeared to be pleased.

Nick Woltemade’s message to Dan Burn

On Sunday, Burn posted an Instagram photo of him meeting the new club-record signing at the Newcastle United training ground

Burn, who stands at around 6ft 7in, noted on just how tall the towering German forward is. Woltemade is 6ft 6in, so certainly brings an added physical presence to the Newcastle United squad

Burn captioned a photo the two: “He’s tall. Welcome to the club.”

Woltemade replied with: “Thank you big man!”

Eddie Howe has already made a prediction about Nick Woltemade

Woltemade’s size is obviously a talking point. Hopefully, he can bring a presence into the Newcastle United attack which has been profoundly lacking this season.

Still, it’s important not to label the 23-year-old as purely a target man. In fact, only two of his 14 Bundesliga goals have been headers.

Eddie Howe thinks Woltemade brings far more than that. Speaking after the draw with Leeds on Saturday, the Newcastle United manager said: “He’s got real creativity around the box.

“He will find passes that not many other players can see.”

That will be exciting for Newcastle. They have some brilliant wide options, so boasting a player capable of bringing them into play feels like a major positive.

Hopefully, Woltemade can hit the ground running when domestic football returns later this month.
