It feels like money is the only thing stopping Miguel Almiron from leaving Newcastle United.
The Paraguay international was heavily linked with a move away from St Jamesβ Park during the summer, to the point that it actually felt inevitable that Miguel Almiron would leave Newcastle United.
But he stayed put, with a return to the MLS collapsing. Charlotte FC tried to sign Almiron, but could not afford to meet Newcastleβs asking price and the wingerβs wage demands. They only had the resources for one or the other, which resulted in the transfer falling through.
There was late interest in Almiron from Nottingham Forest and Everton, but the 30-year-old remained at St Jamesβ Park.
Since then, Almiron has not featured much. His only starts this season have come in the Carabao Cup, with Almiron making three substitute appearances in the Premier League.
He is no longer a regular starter for the Magpies, while Newcastleβs priority in January is to sign a winger.

The latest on Miguel Almironβs future at Newcastle United
That casts further doubt over Miggyβs future at St Jamesβ Park, but Newcastle have a pretty clear stance when it comes to their former record signing.
According to iNews, Newcastle United have told Almironβs representatives that he will only leave the club in January if someone comes in with an offer that matches their valuation.
iNews state that Newcastle will not let Almiron go on the cheap, with Toon officials valuing him at around Β£15million.
The report also adds that Almiron is currently attracting interest from clubs in Brazil, Turkey and USA.
However, iNews claim that Newcastleβs number 24 is not pushing to leave in January.
Newcastle need to become better sellers
Unless a club offers around Β£15million for Almiron, Newcastle are not going to let him leave. The Magpies have no appetite for a cut-price deal, and that is understandable.
However, the situation surrounding Almiron is further evidence that Newcastle United need to become better sellers.
It is an area that the club have really struggled in over the past few years, with the Chris Wood deal the only real success story. Newcastleβs inability to move players on has contributed to their PSR problems, and that culminated in Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson having to leave.
Given the fact that Newcastle have spent the past few months trying to sign a right winger, it is clear that Almiron is no longer essential. From his point of view, he must hardly feel valued, while his recent performances are hardly going to incentivise anyone to pay a huge fee for him.
In that respect, it is difficult to envision Newcastle getting what they want in January. The most likely outcome is that he remains on Tyneside and his valuation plummets further heading into the summer transfer window.
Paul Mitchell has a lot of work to do, and it is vital that he starts bringing money into the club through player sales. If he can get an acceptable fee for Almiron in January then he will have done very well.
