Newcastle United’s last-gasp bid to sign Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest was almost revived on deadline day.

After failing to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, Newcastle United turned their attention to the former Manchester United winger.

Newcastle talked to Forest about a £35million deal for Anthony Elanga, but the Magpies’ approach was turned down.

That was a major blow for Eddie Howe, with Elanga seen as Newcastle’s last chance to strengthen in the transfer market.

Earlier in the day, Howe had said it would be difficult for Newcastle to make any signings, and that has proven to be the case.

Miguel Almiron and Anthony Elanga swap was discussed

However, despite Newcastle’s initial attempt to sign Elanga failing, there was the prospect of the deal being resurrected.

That is according to the Daily Mail (8:34pm), who have reported that Nottingham Forest briefly talked to Newcastle about including Miguel Almiron in a deal that would have seen Elanga move to St James’ Park.

However, the Daily Mail add that another bid was not made.

Everton also linked with Miguel Almiron

Heading into deadline day, Fulham were interested in signing Miguel Almiron.

Now the £21million winger is being linked with Nottingham Forest, as well as another Premier League club.

According to the Guardian’s Ed Aarons, Everton are interested in signing Almiron before the transfer window closes at 11pm.

However, he has added on X that a move to Goodison Park is unlikely for the 30-year-old.

Almiron now in a difficult position at Newcastle

It had been reported earlier on deadline day that Miguel Almiron would not be leaving Newcastle United.

That now looks set to be the case, despite a lot of speculation over his future.

Throughout the summer, Almiron has been talked up as a player who would probably leave Newcastle United. For most fans, it was seen as a natural time for him to move on and a better winger to come in.

That has not happened, leaving Almiron in a potentially difficult position. Newcastle have tried to move him on and failed, yet now he must continue to play for the club and do his best in a black and white shirt.

Eddie Howe wants to get Almiron back to his best, and hopefully that happens despite all the rumours regarding a move away.
