What Newcastle United have already started doing after Liverpool’s interest in Alexander Isak is telling

Reports have confirmed that Alexander Isak has stated his intention to explore his options after an informal enquiry from Liverpool this summer.

In the midst of a rather bleak summer transfer window, the Magpies have just been dealt a brand new issue regarding their star striker.

Alexander Isak has not been seen playing for Newcastle United since the final day of the Premier League season, where Eddie Howe’s side secured qualification to the Champions League. Isak was left out for Newcastle’s loss to Celtic last weekend and has not been named in the squad for their pre-season tour of Asia.

Newcastle are in a position where they do not need to sell Isak, but their hand may be forced after recent news. Isak has told Newcastle he wants to leave this summer and has reportedly also rejected a new contract offer from the club.

Fans were completely shocked at Isak’s transfer decision, and now face weeks of uncertainty before the summer window closes. After the news, Fabrizio Romano has shared how Newcastle have reacted to Isak’s recent request.

Newcastle United looking for a top striker after Alexander Isak asks to leave

Newcastle’s transfer plans could be thrown completely into dissaray if Isak were to leave, with Howe forced to search for another striker to lead the front line.

Reports have linked Newcastle with Yoane Wissa, who is believed to be unsettled at Brentford, but Howe’s recruitment team appear to be looking much further than the 28-year-old.

According to Romano, Newcastle have already started the search for a top striker this summer. His claim suggests Newcastle have been aware of Isak’s transfer stance for at least a few days. It begs the question of whether Isak was really left out of the Celtic game because of his intentions to leave, rather than being in a bad headspace.

Romano did not name any strikers as his replacement, but Geordie Boot Boys understands Newcastle are interested in Benjamin Sesko and Lois Openda.

Howe is confident Isak will still be a Newcastle player after the transfer window closes, but the final 39 days of the summer are sure to be full of nerves and concern over what the future holds.

Newcastle United’s striker search suggests Yoane Wissa is not enough this summer

Wissa looks like he could become a Newcastle player this summer, with talks underway after an initial bid of £25million was rejected by Brentford earlier this week.

According to reports, Brentford are worried about losing Wissa to Newcastle as the striker is unsettled and is open to a move elsewhere. However, Romano’s comments make it clear that Newcastle do not think Wissa is enough for them this summer.

The 28-year-old is coming off the back of a brilliant season with the Bees, scoring 19 goals in the Premier League. He is valued at around £40million, a good fee given his form last season, but Newcastle will naturally be concerned at the lack of experience playing European football.

There will also surely be concerns of whether Wissa can continue his good form at another club. Newcastle need to sign a quality striker who is known to score a high number of goals across multiple seasons. It remains to be seen who that player will be, but a deal has to be done quickly.
