Newcastle United are in an interesting position ahead of the January transfer window.

Indeed, for the first time in three years, Newcastle United could make signings in January

The sale of Alexander Isak should give Newcastle money to spend in the New Year sales, offering a major boost for Eddie Howe.

Indeed, the January transfer window hasn’t been a market Newcastle have been able to explore much in recent years due to PSR issues.

While it remains to be seen just how active the club are when the window opens again, it’s promising to know that there are funds available from owners PIF

Now, more transfer insight has emerged.

Newcastle United could sign young players in January

According to The Chronicle, insiders at the club claim that major squad surgery will not be needed in January.

That’s understandable after Newcastle spent what could rise to £260million during the summer on six major new additions.

However, the report goes on to add that the prospect of Newcastle bringing in younger players in January “seems on the cards”.

Why Newcastle United desperately need younger players in January

An injection of youth would be wise. Summer signings Jacob Ramsey, Nick Woltemade and Malick Thiaw are in their mid-20s but the rest of the Newcastle United squad are towards the older side.

Newcastle continue to make impressive youth signings but not many of them will be seen in the first-team for a number of years.

Indeed, as per Transfermarkt data, the average age of the Newcastle players to have played in the Premier League this season is 26.6 years. That’s the fourth-highest in the division.

PIF want to sign younger players at Newcastle, with their resale value taking on an added importance in a world dominated by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
