What Newcastle have now accepted about Callum Wilson

It will be fascinating to see what Newcastle United manage to do in the January transfer window.

Indeed, Newcastle did not strengthen their squad by any real significant measure over the course of the summer and were slammed by club legend Alan Shearer for that.

Still, owners PIF have reportedly stressed that they remain as ambitious as ever at St James’ Park and making signings in January would certainly be a way to prove that, albeit it is a notoriously difficult window.

Moving players on will be just as important no doubt. Newcastle have struggled to sell players in the PIF era, which surely cannot have helped their financial position. With new funds rarely coming into the club, it undoubtedly limits what can go out.

However, the club have reportedly come to something of an acceptance in regards to Callum Wilson.

While Eddie Howe has constantly been keen to stress he wants the England forward in his squad, Wilson’s future on Tyneside looks relatively bleak.

Out of contract next summer anyway, GIVEMESPORT claim decision-makers at Newcastle accept that they will likely not attract much in the way of a fee for Wilson were he to leave in January.

As a result, the prospect of losing him for free next summer is not deemed a huge concern.

Still, Wilson could always push to leave in January.

Reports earlier this month suggested both Fulham and Brentford were keen on the striker, with the player himself said to be open to the idea of leaving.

Wilson has been an excellent servant to the club and fantastic value for £20m but the fitness issues cannot be ignored. He simply isn’t on the pitch often enough.

Even if he’s not going to attract huge sums, selling in January would seem wise.
