Every time Newcastle United’s dreadful summer appears to have hit rock bottom, more bad news emerges. This time, it’s in regard to Yoane Wissa.

Wissa wants to join Newcastle United this summer as the club look to strengthen their attacking options regardless of what happens with Alexander Isak.

Isak has asked to leave Newcastle amid interest from Liverpool, although it remains to be seen what happens on that front.

Either way, Wissa is a target. The Brentford forward is said to be furious he’s not been allowed to leave the London club this summer, such is his desire to move to St James’ Park and play Champions League football.

As is seemingly always the case with Newcastle, however, there has now been an unwelcome development.

Brentford expect Yoane Wissa back in training

According to The Standard, Brentford expect their forward to return to training this week.

Wissa reportedly told Brentford he’d never play for them again but it seems the club are confident he will be back in training.

The DR Congo international left the club’s pre-season training camp amid so much talk about his future.

The report adds that while Brentford value him at £50million, they are currently preparing for him to start their Premier League campaign in August.

From bad to worse for Newcastle United as Yoane Wissa blow rubs salt into the wounds

Newcastle expect Benjamin Sesko to join Manchester United, and now it seems Brentford are confident about keeping Wissa.

That would be a big enough blow for Newcastle even without the Isak saga or Callum Wilson leaving.

The club have one tried-and-tested forward heading into next season and he is seemingly doing everything he can to leave. Potential replacements, meanwhile, continue to fall by the wayside.

Few could have imagined this summer going so badly.
