Alexander Isak wants to leave Newcastle United this summer.
As painful as that is to write, it’s felt like that news has been coming for a while now. Indeed, Isak was left out of the Newcastle United squad for their pre-season tour of Asia.
The club claim that Isak is suffering from a thigh injury, which also ruled him out of the pre-season defeat at Celtic last week.
However, some unwelcome developments emerged on Thursday not long after the news about the squad announcement was revealed.

Newcastle United hope for new Alexander Isak contract
According to The Daily Mail, Isak has told Newcastle that he wants to leave this summer.
Liverpool are interested in Isak and would be open to making the Sweden international a British record signing.
Still, PIF and Eddie Howe do not wish to sell him and their preference would be to negotiate a new contract, even if he were to eventually leave next summer.
Isak still has three years to run on his contract, so the club are in a strong position.
It’s added, however, that an offer of £150million coupled with Isak pushing to leave could see his exit accelerate over the coming weeks.
Why Alexander Isak wants to leave Newcastle United
The exact reasons are unknown, though it’s worth looking back at what’s happened in regard to his contract.
Isak’s Newcastle salary pales in comparison to other top strikers around the world. He’s said to be on £120k-per-week and while that is clearly a lot of money, it does not seem it when compared to some of the other salaries his contemporaries are getting.
Isak was disappointed he wasn’t offered a new contract in 2024, having been promised one by the club’s former co-owners.
That hasn’t happened yet, which could at least partly explain why he wants to leave after winning the Carabao Cup and qualifying for the Champions League.
