What Benjamin Sesko has ‘told teammates’ with RB Leipzig exit imminent after Newcastle United bid

RB Leipzig appear to be preparing for Benjamin Sesko’s potential departure following a club-record offer from Newcastle United.

Newcastle are prepared to make Sesko their club-record signing, and made a bid worth an initial £65.5million on Saturday.

Manchester United are still being linked with Sesko, so to confidently predict that Newcastle will sign him feels unwise given the struggles the club have endured in the transfer market this summer.

Still, it seems Leipzig are taking steps towards his eventual departure – no matter where his next destination is.

Benjamin Sesko left out of RB Leipzig friendly squad

As per German football expert Florian Plettenberg on social media platform X, Sesko’s departure from the Bundesliga side is imminent – albeit it’s not absolutely certain he will join Newcastle at this stage. The Red Devils are “still pushing” to sign him.

In fact, the 22-year-old has reportedly told his Leipzig teammates that he will be leaving the club this summer.

Sesko has duly been left out of Leipzig’s squad for their friendly against Atalanta on Saturday.

The doubts Newcastle United have over Benjamin Sesko

Newcastle had doubts about Sesko’s asking price, although have now gone in with a statement bid.

What has changed is unclear. Obviously, Liverpool’s huge move for Alexander Isak cannot be ignored, but Newcastle wanted to sign a new forward long before the Isak saga unfolded anyway.

It’s natural to have doubts about a young striker who has played fewer than 100 games in one of Europe’s major leagues.

Still, Eddie Howe transformed Isak into one of the best forwards in the world after an inconsistent spell at Real Sociedad.

There should be genuine reason to be confident that Sesko would improve under Howe’s watch.

The Newcastle United manager has yielded significant improvements out of almost all of the players he’s brought to the club since his appointment in November 2021.
